The body that sprints, decelerates, and changes direction is running the same engine as the body in the chair. Both lose it the same way. Both rebuild it in 60 seconds.

·01 · the desk worker problem

LPL drops 90% within minutes of sitting.

Lipoprotein lipase is the enzyme that pulls fat out of your blood and turns it into fuel. Sit for an hour and it nearly stops. Even if you crushed the gym this morning. The fix isn't another workout. It's standing up before the enzyme goes to sleep.

High-intensity intermittent decays at rest.

A match is one to three seconds of explosion, then walking. Repeat for 90 minutes. That ability, the rapid recovery between sprints, is the perishable thing. Short repeated bursts keep it sharp. Long sits between sessions don't.
